Declaration of Brazilian Capital Abroad (CBE) | Base year 2025

We would like to inform you that the deadline for submitting the Annual Statement of Brazilian Capital Abroad (CBE), referring to the base date of December 31, 2025, to be submitted to the Central Bank of Brazil by individuals or legal entities resident, domiciled or headquartered in Brazil that hold assets abroad in an amount equal to or greater than the limit established by the applicable regulations, is now open.

The declaration must be submitted by April 5, 2026, using the system provided by the Central Bank of Brazil.

1. Who must make the declaration

Individuals or legal entities resident, domiciled or headquartered in Brazil must file the declaration, the frequency of which varies according to the amount of assets and valuables held abroad, as shown below:

1. Annual Declaration: Must be filed in the case of assets and valuables held abroad that total an amount equal to or greater than the equivalent of USD 1,000,000.00 (one million United States dollars) on the base date of December 31, 2025, to be filed this year by April 5, 2025 (“Annual CBE”).

2. Quarterly Declaration: Must be provided in the case of assets and valuables abroad that total a value equal to or greater than the equivalent of USD 100,000,000.00 (one hundred million United States dollars), to be provided in addition to the Annual CBE referred to above, in relation to the base dates listed below:

  • base date of March 31, 2026: must declare between April 30 and June 5, 2026;
  • base date of June 30, 2026, must declare between July 31 and September 5, 2026; and
  • base date of September 30, 2026, must declare between October 31 and December 5, 2026.

Assets that must be declared include, among others: (i) bank deposits held abroad; (ii) shareholdings in foreign companies; (iii) securities; (iv) loans granted to non-residents; (v) real estate and other assets held outside the country.

2. Information to be provided

The declaration must contain detailed information about the assets held abroad, including, among other things:

1. identification and classification of assets held outside Brazil;

2. values corresponding to each asset on the respective base date;

3. the country where the assets are located;

4. characteristics and nature of the investments made.

3. Penalties

Failure to provide or providing false, incomplete, incorrect or out-of-date information will subject offenders to a fine, under the terms of the regulations in force.
