Government issues Provisional Measure 959/2020, which among other matters, extends the entry into force of the General Data Protection Law
As we had previously reported, the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) was due to enter into force in August/2020. However, some bills presented in Congress intended to extend the entry into force to August/2022, to the argument that companies need to make great and profound changes in terms of not only culture, but also software and processes to suit the requirements of the law.
Putting an end to this matter, the Government published yesterday (April 29, 2020), Provisional Measure No. 959/2020, which provides, in its article 4, that the LGPD (Law 13,709/18) will enter into force on May 3, 2021.
Therefore, companies have a period of one (1) year to adapt to the standards brought by the LGPD, in order to start providing greater protection to the data not only of employees, but also of job candidates, customers, suppliers, etc.
Our Labor Team is available to answer any questions regarding the legal obligations provided for in the LGPD.
